Following his father’s death, 30-something Anand, a Mumbai call-centre worker, must return to his ancestral village with his mother to observe the ten-day mourning ritual. While he struggles with his grief and the extended family’s questions about his unmarried status, Anand reconnects with single farmer Balya, a friend from his childhood. The two men quickly form a deeper bond.
★★★★ “Here is a really impressive directorial debut from Mumbai film-maker Rohan Kanawade: tender, subtle, candid, scrupulously observed. It is a story of forbidden and unacknowledged love … and an emotional flowering that reveals the oppressive importance of family, status and class.” The Guardian
★★★★ “There’s a real sweetness and gentleness about this tale, in which everybody really wants the best for everybody else, but different ways of thinking mean there’s still sufficient dramatic tension to keep it moving.” Eye For Film
