23-year-old Amélie is lonely. After an isolating childhood, she moves to Paris and becomes a waitress at the Café des Deux Moulins. One night she happens across a box of treasures hidden in her apartment, left by a little boy in the Fifties, that changes the course of her life. She dedicates herself to giving back to her community — tracking down the owner of the keepsakes, consoling a widowed neighbour, befriending a reclusive artist — and crosses paths with Nino, a photobooth collagist who shares her oddball sensibilities.
★★★★ “[Audrey] Tautou works wonders within Jeunet’s panopticon. The sets and costumes are exquisitely cartoonish.” The Irish Times
